That Doesn't Work, Tom

"And unflickering porchlight sounds nice, but to be honest, a mother, or brother, or sister that loves you feels a lot better."

It's a metaphor. You can't mix metaphor with... whatever the opposite of metaphor is. If people are mosquitoes, then people can't be people, too. Your sister is a mosquito, buzzing around and being annoying, diving and spinning and making a wreck of herself. If people are people and not mosquitoes, then God is God and not an "unflickering porchlight".

Don't you remember? Remember how good He is? Like, better than the best good you've known anywhere else? Like, completely mind-bogglingly better? Like, everything beautiful and lovely and powerful and intoxicating and attractive and comfortable and affirming and good
just
turns
to
grey?
When you look His way?
It's better. You don't have to feel it. It just is.
